Last week I had the privilege of attending the Johannesburg, South Africa Temple with 27 of our Young Men and Young Women. Because it is so far away we rarely get to attend it, which is sad. However, when our Prophet President Monson announced a new temple will be built in Durban in a couple of years we were ECSTATIC! It will be muuuuuuuuuuuuuch closer and more feasible to attend. It will only take 6 hours to drive there. Now we're just waiting for them to finally purchase a plot of land and construct it.
Anyway, this was an exciting trip! I left last Thursday at midnight with J's parents and brother and arrived there shortly after 10:30AM. The youth rode up in 2 hired quantum taxi's and they arrived after 12:00PM. We had about an hour to be assigned rooms at patron housing and have a quick shower before we entered the House of Lord at 14:30. The youth had amazing experiences, felt an added measure of the spirit and gained a testimony about the importance of doing work for those who never had the privilege they have to participate in the saving ordinances of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Elder Golden of the Seventy came specially to assist us! On Friday evening we were also blessed to have a special fireside with Elder and Sister Bricknell who shared some inspiring experiences about missionary work. We returned home on Saturday evening full of gratitude. I am grateful we have a temple in our land and another on the way.
That is quite a ways away! It is awesome that you all were able to go! It makes me want to go and take advantage of how close our temple is.
